Schmitt Heating and Sheet Metal is a name that has been synonymous with quality and progress in the field of household and commercial heating, sheet metal and air conditioning for over 100 years. Now owned and operated by Greg Schmitt, great, great grandson of the original founder, this fifth-generation company continues to provide the same quality of service they have been known for in the Bay Are since 1901.
Founded in 1876 in Colorado Springs by Jacob Schmitt, working with his son, George W. Schmitt, the company moved the business by train to Oakland, California in 1901, initially operating out of the very box cars used to move. Although the public was skeptical due to the temperate California weather, the Schmitt family sold lots of furnaces. Meanwhile, George W.’s son, George P. Schmitt had starting working in the business at the age of 14. In 1921, George P. Schmitt moved the business from Oakland to San Francisco, originally located on Ocean Avenue and eventually moving in 1932 to 3281 Mission Street. George P. was the manufacturer of DUPLEX furnaces which came to be known for their “soothing heat.”
Greg Schmitt’s father (George A.) moved the business to the Richmond District in 1966. Greg took over the business in 1994 and now caters to both residential and commercial clients throughout the Bay Area. Schmitt Heating is a company built on tradition while remaining on the cutting edge of technology. We install high-efficiency furnaces, air conditioners, and electronic air cleaners providing energy savings and ultimate indoor comfort. We also install custom sheet metal products for both residential and commercial applications.
